Final Cut: Logging and Philippine Forestry is the first of Project Bakawan’s Pathfinders Series. It was held on July 25, at the UP College of Fine Arts. From the Center for Environmental Concerns, Marah Sayaman presented Cleng Yu Julve’s research on the state of Philippine Forestry. Lisa Ito-Tapang presented works by Filipino artists who have elaborated on foliage. For the laboratory component, participants experienced the importance of wood as they joined the Paete Artist Guild in wood sculpting.
Cleng Yu Julve
Cleng Yu Julve is an environmental educator at the Center for Ecological Concerns (CEC) – Philippines. where she actively organizes environmental discussions and is involved with a number of Environmental Investigative Missions (EIM) in different communities from the grassroots level.
Lisa Ito-Tapang teaches art history and art theory at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts (UP CFA) in Quezon City, Philippines. She has worked for the Center for Environmental Concerns-Philippines, Kalikasan Partylist and Kalikasan People's Network for the Environment from 2008 to 2012. She is also a member of the Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP).
Paete Artist Guild
(Represented by Glenn Cagandahan, Joselito Iglesia, Benjamin Dailo and Nestor Cagayat) The Paete Artist Guild aims to preserve, promote and continue the artistic traditions of Paete, Laguna in order to strengthen its identity. The group is composed of native Paete painters and woodcarvers, whose art practice also includes organising workshops and outreaches for the youth.
